Abstract

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad, the best of all creation. To proceed, this study is titled: "The Ambiguity of Inflection (Mushkil al-I'rab) and Its Impact on Changing the Interpretive Meaning." It consists of an introduction, two main sections (a theoretical study and an applied study), and a conclusion.
The theoretical section provides an exposition and clarification of the study's terminology, in which I defined the "Concept of Inflectional Ambiguity" and the impact of such "ambiguity" on the audience based on their various states: (the open-minded, the hesitant, and the skeptical). This is a crucial classification that must be considered when presenting these sciences—such as ambiguity or apparent contradiction and variance—to suit contemporary audiences and the intellectual ailments they may possess.
Then, I presented the applied section as an illustration of "the ambiguity of inflection and meaning," which includes four subsections as follows: The first subsection addresses the ambiguity in the inflection of (al-Sabi'un) [Al-Ma'idah: 69]. The second subsection addresses the ambiguity in the inflection of the Almighty's saying: (al-Awlayan) [Al-Ma'idah: 107]. The third subsection addresses the ambiguity in the inflection of the Almighty's saying: (In hadhani la-sahiran) [Taha: 63]. In the fourth subsection, I addressed the ambiguity in the meaning of the Almighty's saying: (In nazhunnu illa zhannan) [Al-Jathiyah: 32]. I have selected these instances for the diversity of their problematic aspects to collectively serve as an indication of ambiguity in every field and context. The research concludes with the most important findings, including: the correlation between instances of inflectional ambiguity and meaning, as inflection is a branch of meaning; and that every instance of ambiguity in inflection and meaning is inevitably resolvable.
