This study explores the significance of particles (ḥurūf al-maʿānī) and their role in Arabic texts by examining the various uses and contextual functions of the particle (LĀ) from both grammatical and semantic perspectives. The particle (LĀ) generally expresses two primary meanings: negation and prohibition. Grammatically, it can function similarly to the verbal particles such as kāna and its sisters or inna and its sisters, and it may act as a jussive particle affecting the present tense verb. In other instances, it may carry no syntactic function. This research aims, with the help and guidance of Allah, to analyze these grammatical and semantic aspects of (LĀ) by closely examining its occurrences in a selection of Hadiths compiled by al-Nawawī in his renowned collection titled Al-Arbaʿīn al-Nawawiyyah (The Forty Hadiths of al-Nawawī). The study adopts an analytical methodology in its approach to the selected Prophetic traditions
