This research addresses the significance of "Preserving Religion" (Hifz al-Din), which is considered one of the most paramount Sharia essentials (Al-Kulliyat) within the Objectives of Sharia (Maqasid al-Shari'ah). The study explores the definition of religion, clarifies the general objectives of Islamic law, and elucidates the reality and classifications of Maqasid-based necessities. It emphasizes that the preservation of religion stands as the most vital among these objectives. Furthermore, the research examines the preservation of religion from two perspectives: the aspect of existence (establishment) and the aspect of non-existence (protection from deprivation).
Among the key findings of this research is that the preservation of religion is the highest necessity that must be maintained. This is achieved by strengthening the creed (Aqidah), practicing its teachings, and establishing its rituals through acts of worship and transactions. Moreover, it involves combating innovation (Bida‘) and extremism, as well as defending the faith through the legislation of Jihad with both soul and wealth
