This paper aims to understand how to develop EFL students' MA dissertation supervision practices from supervisors' perspectives within the Libyan context. This issue arose from the researcher's own experience as both an MA student teacher and supervisor. To achieve the study's goal, a qualitative method was employed to gather in-depth data on supervision practices directly from supervisors. Semi-structured interviews were used as the primary qualitative data collection instrument. The study's participants were three MA supervisors, purposefully chosen based on their extensive experience.
The obtained data were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. The findings revealed that supervisors face various challenges, including: students' lack of foundational knowledge about conducting research, insufficient institutional facilities, supervisors bearing multiple duties, a dearth of training workshops for supervisors, and financial problems that hinder their professional development within their institutions. Therefore, this study recommends overcoming these challenges to improve supervisors' practices, which will ultimately enhance students' research abilities.
